Brrr

Cold Shoulder

Happy New Year!

This week I sample Widmer Brother’s, Brrr:

Brrr is a seasonal ale with an ABV of 7.2%. A bit on the higher side, but that’s not the problem. After last week’s special Christmas present, this one had a lot to live up to. Sadly enough, it didn’t.

Upon opening the bottle, I was hit with a skunky scent. Whoa! Brrr poured a murky amber with virtually no head. There was a burnt taste, that wasn’t strong, due to the water-down back bite that seemed to put out the fire. Not a good combination. Reminded me of my barfly days with my band, ordering a cheap well drink durning happy hour–before they banned smoking in bars. After a half of glass, there was barely any flavor; and what was left was bad. Save your money–Stay Away!

Beginners would be able to handle this brew, with little or no problem. The downside is they can be fooled into thinking they were drinking a quality craft beer. Everyone should avoid the beer like the plague!

I would pair the awful ale with some very expensive stadium food. This way you’ll get that full-fledged ripped-off feel!

My Rating: 1 out of 5 pint glasses :-(

That’s disappointing. And the Widmer beers usually rate fairly high on Beer Advocate too.

LOL at your beer pairing, by the way. Funny stuff. My New Year’s Resolution is to start reviewing beers on my own blog once again. I’ve been a little lame on that end.

Happy New Year!

Thanks B.E.,

I try not to read any reviews prior to my reviews, I don’t want them to taint my opinion. I do like to check some out after I review, though, so I can compare.

Looking forward to your reviews.

HAppy New Year!

Maybe after awhile you should have the “brews of shame” list of all the ones you have tried that people should avoid like they are on fire?

Hope you had a great new years day.

This one had me and my husband laughing out loud. I put a “digg” on it. ‘Nuf said.

Any chance you got a hold of a bad bottle? This doesn’t sound at all like the beer I sampled. I’m not saying it’s the best I’ve tried, but definitely one of the better hop-heavy winter brews this year for my money. Just curious … cheers!

Thanks Shawn,

Bad bottle?…How about bad six pack! I’ve had malt liquor that was better than this one! sorry.

Thanks for stopping by, though! Hope you make it a regular stop!

Happy New Year!

I actually haven’t run into anyone who likes this beer yet. Thats probably why most of the alcohol pushers I frequent don’t stock it anymore.
