Chicken Killer
In this Brew Review, I sample one of Santa Fe Brewing Company’s selections: Chicken Killer Barley Wine Ale
I love sampling microbrews, although my favorite type is IPA, I can enjoy a good Porter, Stout, or Pale. I haven’t had too much experience with barley wines, and the ones I’ve tried have been rather harsh. I’m not one to shy away, so I decided to give barley wines another shot.
Opening up Chicken killer and pouring it into a chilled pint glass; the color had a bright golden hue, closely resembling apple juice. The barley wine had a rich, but smooth flavor, with an unusually sweet aftertaste. Beware, the Chicken Killer boasts having a 10% by vol. alcohol content. The label claims it’s brewed with twice the ingredients of their other beers, and only half the liquid is extracted from the ingredients. I did notice it’s effects upon finishing the bottle.
Overall, I was pleasantly suprised with Chicken Killer. I would definitely reccomend it to others.
My Rating: 4 out of 5 Pint Glasses (5 being the highest)

Nice post and website. Chicken Killer is a pretty good one. I hope you keep trying more microbrews. The more the merrier.
Next time, I would recommend trying the B-Wine in a cupped glass, like a wine goblet or a snifter. You will notice the smell a lot better, which enhances the flavor. It will also really enhance the experience if you hold off on the “chilled” glass. Chilled glasses just keep beer (and your hand) cold, which is great for pale lagers that don’t have much taste. The more a barleywine or stout warms, the more flavors and scents come out of it. Do this and you’ll never order a port wine again with that cigar.
Give it a shot with your next B-wine, and let me know what you think.
